Department of Translation and Interpretation

The Department of Translation and Interpretation at Afro-Asian University is committed to fostering the development of our students through a comprehensive set of learning outcomes. By the time students complete our program, they will:

1. Proficiency in Languages: Demonstrate advanced proficiency in at least two languages, including both source and target languages relevant to their chosen specialization.

2. Translation and Interpretation Skills: Acquire strong translation and interpretation skills, including the ability to accurately convey meaning, maintain tone and style, and handle specialized terminology across various subject areas.

3. Cultural Competence: Develop cultural sensitivity and awareness, enabling effective communication and adaptation to diverse cultural contexts in translation and interpretation work.

4. Critical Thinking and Analysis: Apply critical thinking skills to analyze and evaluate texts, identify potential challenges or ambiguities, and make informed decisions to ensure accurate and effective translation and interpretation.

5. Ethical and Professional Standards: Understand and adhere to ethical principles and professional standards governing the practice of translation and interpretation, including confidentiality, impartiality, and accuracy.

6. Technology Proficiency: Utilize translation and interpretation technology tools effectively, including computer-assisted translation (CAT) software, terminology databases, and remote interpreting platforms.

7. Research Skills: Conduct research and locate reliable sources of information to support translation and interpretation projects, demonstrating the ability to verify accuracy and validity of information.

8. Interpersonal and Communication Skills: Communicate effectively and professionally with clients, colleagues, and stakeholders, demonstrating strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively in multicultural teams.

9. Adaptability and Flexibility: Demonstrate adaptability and flexibility in responding to changing language and communication needs, as well as evolving industry trends and technological advancements.
